Getting started
FinDeck is an iPhone companion for people who run their own Jellyfin media server: live sessions, transcode reasons, watch stats, a Home Screen widget and optional alerts.
- Tap Try the demo on the first screen. Every screen works with sample data. No server, no account and no purchase needed.
- When you are ready, tap Connect your server (Pro). FinDeck Pro is a one-time purchase, never a subscription.
- Enter your server address (for example
http://192.168.1.10:8096or your HTTPS address) and tap Find server. - Sign in with Quick Connect or your user name and password. Use an administrator account to see every session, the activity log and stats.
Frequently asked
FinDeck can't reach my server. What do I check first?
1) Is the address right? Use the same address and port you open Jellyfin with in a browser (8096 for plain http by default). 2) Are you on the same network? Local addresses only work at home or over your VPN (Tailscale and similar work well). 3) Plain http needs an IP address: iOS only allows http:// to a local IP address, your VPN IP address, or a .local name. Plain http to any other hostname, including a full VPN hostname such as a Tailscale MagicDNS name, is blocked by iOS. Use your HTTPS address, a local IP, or your VPN IP. If you type http and the same address also answers over https, FinDeck switches to https for you. 4) Did iOS ask for Local Network access? If you declined, turn it on in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security, Local Network, FinDeck.
My server uses a self-signed certificate
FinDeck can't accept a self-signed certificate: it uses the standard iOS certificate check and has no option to approve one. Use a certificate iOS already trusts (for example from Let's Encrypt or your reverse proxy), install and trust your own certificate authority on the iPhone (iOS Settings, General, About, Certificate Trust Settings), or connect over plain http to the server's local or VPN IP address.
Why are the Stats screens empty or asking me to install a plugin?
Full watch history comes from the free Playback Reporting plugin for Jellyfin, and reading it needs an administrator account. Install it from your Jellyfin dashboard (Plugins, Catalog, Playback Reporting), then restart the server and pull to refresh on the Stats tab so FinDeck checks for it again. The plugin records from the day it is installed, with no backfill, and keeps 3 months of history by default; you can raise that in its settings. Without it, FinDeck shows the plays it observed itself while it was running, in the foreground and during background checks. That observed view starts over when the app restarts or you switch servers.
I signed in with a non-admin account. What can I see?
Your own sessions, library counts and the server version. Jellyfin only shows all sessions, the activity log and watch stats to administrators.
How do alerts work?
Each server has three alerts in Settings: Server unreachable is on by default; New session and Transcode started are off until you turn them on. FinDeck asks for notification permission when you connect or turn an alert on. Alerts are best-effort: iOS decides when FinDeck may check in the background, typically a few times a day, so alerts are not instant. For a server on a Tailscale address (100.64.0.0/10 or a .ts.net name), FinDeck never sends the Server unreachable alert; the dashboard shows "unreachable from here" instead. It does the same for a home-network server while you are on cellular data. FinDeck can't tell one Wi-Fi network from another, so on another Wi-Fi network, a home-only server can still alert.
How do I add the widget?
Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and choose FinDeck (small or medium). It shows the server you are viewing in the app, with an "as of" time so you always know how fresh the numbers are. Open the app now and then to keep it current.
What's free and what's Pro?
The demo is free, with every screen on sample data. FinDeck Pro, a one-time purchase, connects your own servers (as many as you like) with live sessions, stats, the widget and alerts. Restore a previous purchase in Settings: tap Connect your server (Pro), then Restore Purchases.
What happens if I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com; we cannot issue them. After a refund your saved servers are kept, and Pro features lock: live data, background checks, alerts and the widget pause, and FinDeck shows "Pro is not active" with options to unlock Pro again or use the demo. Buying or restoring Pro resumes everything.
Does FinDeck change anything on my server?
No. It reads your server. The only other requests are signing in, Quick Connect, and signing the app out when you remove a server, so it does not linger in your server's device list.
Is my data collected?
No. See the privacy policy: no analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDKs, no server of ours. Access tokens stay in the iOS Keychain on your iPhone and go only to your servers.
Reporting a bug
Email [email protected] with your iPhone model and iOS version, the FinDeck version (Settings, About), your Jellyfin version, whether the account is an administrator, and what you did, what you expected and what happened. Screenshots help; please hide public addresses and user names you do not want to share.
FinDeck is an independent app. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Jellyfin project. Jellyfin is the name of the free software media system made by the Jellyfin project; FinDeck uses it only to say which servers the app works with.
